Introduction

The first generation of Financial Management products developed by WSI were based on proprietary hardware and 3GL tools supplied by a leading manufacturer. As the market moved away from proprietary software tools, WSI began development of the next generation product based on "open systems" technology and the following objectives:

• Independance from 4GL, Database, Hardware Platform, or Operating System
• Complete Felxibility for the Evolution of Technology and Client Needs
• High Performance

With these goals in mind, and after lengthy research, WSI selected the following development environment :

• "C" and "C++" Programming Environment for Portability and Performance
• Informix Database Management System for File Management
• SQL Report Writer
• UNIX Operating System

Challenging design objectives were met, and proved to be the catalyst for the development of the most flexible and sophisticated software products available to law firms today
